The Threat to Justice

This will be my third attempt to re-write this post in such a way where I am not standing on a soapbox holding a megaphone. Here we go…

I am incredibly disappointed in the Judicial system today. I have been following the story of Troy Davis with enthusiasm that we, as a people, might have the ability to create a voice for the voiceless. That as a collective, we can influence the outcome between life in death in a positive manner.

This case is immersed in very muddy water. Between recanted testimonies from eye witnesses, no murder weapon and no DNA evidence directly linking Davis to the homicide, we are all left to ponder. With even a hint of doubt, it is our Governments job to not act like a corporation that ties up loose ends, but as a system that seeks truth. This was not how this case was handled. And let me just say right now that the retraction of the Supreme Court to delay Davis’ substantive appeal, in my opinion, is cruel and unusual punishment.

The man was granted four extra hours to live. Where is there justice in that?

Simply put, I expect much much better out of the system. Especially when people like Charles Manson still get three meals a day and Casey Anthony gets offered a book deal.

When there is no value for human life within the political arena, I am left with a terrible feeling that the values of life, liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness are just empty words on a monitor.
